Grumman W2F-1 Hawkeye

W2F-1 HAWKEYE
Named after the legendary American Scout, Hawkeye, the W2F-1 is a carrier-based, early warning of attack and intercept control aircraft. Used in teams, Hawkeye aircraft can circle a fleet task force with a huge umbrella of early warning protection hundreds of miles in diameter. Any enemy aircraft, even the fastest of aircraft, entering sectors being watched by Hawkeye's sensory equipment is detected, identified, tracked and ultimately destroyed by the information supplied by this veritable "flying brain". In addition to being a mere supplier of information about attack, Hawkeye can also assume direct command over interceptors when responsibility for the complete defense of a sector is assigned to its crew of five. The aircraft is powered by two Allison T-56-A8 engines.
