Lunar Rover

Rover Wheel: This closeup of the Lunar Roving Vehicle [LRV] wheel shows the aluminum center and steel wire and aluminum "treads." The Lunar Roving Vehicle was a battery powered "dune buggy" taken to the Moon on Apollo missions 15, 16, and 17. It was stowed on the descent stage of the Lunar Module and deployed upon arrival at the lunar surface. The Lunar Roving Vehicle, Qualification Test Unit will be on display in the new Destination Moon gallery.
